The fact that the world that you explore in Subnautica is a volcanic crater. On the surface, you will see nothing but open ocean and four landmarks. These ones include lifepod, Aurora’s crashed hulk, and two mountainous islands. The lifepod is in the middle, the Aurora is in the East, and two islands are in the Northeast and Southwest. And you can’t see these two islands if don’t get close to them because they are usually obscured by the fog.

Besides that, you will early find out a schematic for a compass in this game. And it is extremely necessary for finding the way around you. With this compass and map, you will be able to notate some basic directions by using the grid markings.

A note for you that the grid marking has a line every 500 meters, so, you can follow it to find the right way.

For example, if you want to get to lifepod 19 from your crash site, you will have to swim due west about 250 meters; get to lifepod 6, you have to swim due East about 300 meters.

About the depth, almost of good stuff is found on the ocean floor. However, how deep can you go depending on your equipment and your vehicles. So, when mentioning “where is anything?”, you should only pay your attention to directions, not depth.

How to have a Subnautica map?

As mentioned above, this game doesn’t offer players a map to explore the game world. Instead of that, they must by someway explore and find out the necessary thing. They can take some notes or remember some important locations. However, of course, the easiest way is to create a personal map.

In order to note locations actually, you need a coordinate system. There are two options for you in this game, they are console coordinates and homebrewed beacon triangulation. And of course, you can select any option you want.

Create Subnautica map by Console Coordinates

If you choose using the console coordinates, let’s do follow this guide. The fact that it is very easy because everything in Subnautica has in-game coordinates. First of all, you need to find coordinates by pressing F1. There will be a console menu popping up and under “Camera world pos” you will see three numbers (x, y, z). These three numbers show coordinates of any location in-game in which X is longitude, Y is the depth, and Z is latitude. In longitude, +ve is East and -ve is West. In-depth, +ve is up and -ve is down. In latitude, +ve is North and -ve is South. In case you find something interesting, let’s press F1 and note those coordinates to your Subnautica map to refer to later.

Create Subnautica map by Homebrewed Beacon Triangulation

This is also a great tool to create a personal Subnautica map. The fact that homebrewed beacon triangulationcan be used for making maps in various ways. However, in this article, the way that we mention is position resection. In detail, with this method, you will use three fixed known points to determine the unknown location that you are in.

So, how to get the known fixed point? I’ll tell you right now! In order to get this point, you will need beacons and floating radio transmitters that can stay stable in water. After scanning a few fragments at wrecks, you will be able to unlock a blueprint for a beacon. In addition, there is a litter copper ore and titanium there and they let your fabricator whip one up. Then, the thing you need to do is to try to create the best coverage. In order to do that, let’s swim or drive out to the edges of the map. There, let’s drop all of your three beacons. This activity may take you over some deep and dangerous waters, however, you won’t die as long as staying on the surface.

Once you have dropped all three beacons on the edges of the map, you have your own Subnautica map. And now, you can see icons and distances through your tablet. And if you want to make a note for a special location that you’ve found, just get a distance reading from each of the beacons. For example, 900 meters away from #1 (beacon 1), 340 meters away from #2, and 1875 meters away from #3. In case you find a wreck with a broken door panel and you left your repair tool back to your base. The distances will work like coordinates and they will help you to find out the way back.

Biomes and coordinates of them

In each biome, there are some rare creature or mineral that is necessary for your recipes. So, know and determine exactly coordinates of these biomes is a very important job.
